The
area is turistic, but you can feel the great atmosphere. The area
has got a soul, a real identity. It's Bangkok's bohemian heart where
budget travellers come out to play and meet locals in a colourful
and convivial atmosphere.
You
can spend all day here and don't get bored. You just need to sit
in a table in a bar, read a book and start to talk to the other
travellers. It's easy to meet new people, normal to join the table
of somebody that you don't know, and exchange information and tips
on your next destination.
At
least I understood one thing, the Orient is affascinating. Bangkok,
like so many other cities of the third world, is full of contraddictions.
There are very modern area, with the latest skyscrapes and then
just around the corner you can find wooden houses where people live
in a very difficult conditions. The traffic is terrible. To go from
one side to the other of city, you could take hours. The best way
to move in the city, it is by expressboat. It's fast, cheap and
you can enjoy a nice view. In this city there are markets everywhere
and they are open till late. Everywhere you can also find some strange
little restaurants where also the majority of Thai eat at all hours.
Chinatown and Little India are very interisting area too. This city
has a lot to offer.
Today
is the King birthday. Thousand of people arrived in the city for
the celebration. Yuo can feel that it is an important day for them.
Everywhere you can find a street show, thai boxing matches and the
thai are in the steet all day. The celebration will continue till
late.
Now
I will have at least ten hours (probably more) by bus to reach Chang
Mai, the second biggest city in the north of Thailand.
